Company Founder & Director - Lucy Thorsby

Born in the U.K. Lucy, was inspired to travel with a love for adventure, living in Greece, Spain, France & Israel for 10 yrs. Working creatively in tourism, learning the languages and enjoying the culture, climate & cuisine. She continued her journey through India & Asia till she arrived in Australia in the late 80’s with her beautiful son Natan. When Lucy discovered Byron she knew she’d found home within this creative alternative community and has worked, played and grown her family here being blessed with a richness of life, friends & experiences.

Working in a variety of professions, from running a Catering business, Event & Festival Coordination, Lighting & Installations, Hotel Management, N.L.P Practitioner and for the past 8 years managing a well known Health Spa. With an interest in alternative therapies, communication and self-discovery, and a ‘joie de vive’, it has been a long time wish to create a more unique style of holidays to stimulate the senses & revitalize the soul.

Lucy was motivated to develop Spirit of Byron after doing an empowerment/N.L.P. workshop where she realized how important it is to follow your passions in life & to do what you excel in. With a love for organizing fun & inspirational activities and the established network and the skills to coordinate it all smoothly, holiday planning came second nature.

Co-Director & Travel consultant - Margie Hanssens

Born in Amsterdam of Dutch/Indonesian descent, Margie  arrived in Australia in the early 80’s travelling back & forth to Europe working in tourism and cafe management. Margie first settled in Brisbane and studied Travel & Tourism & worked in Early Childcare. Through her travels in Asia, Margie designed & imported soft furnishing and started Twisted Vision cushions supplying shops, festivals and markets in Northern New South Wales & in the early 90’s she made Byron Bay her home. Loving the beauty of the Byron Shire & it’s diverse creative community, she feels grateful having met inspiring people who have given her an insight to alternative therapies and the simplicity of good & healthy living. Margie enjoys learning the art of yoga, dance, self empowerment & communication. She did return to Amsterdam being offered a position as a travel consultant.  Being a Capricorn with a great aptitude for organization in team environment, Margie also managed one of Byron’s most popular café’s for several years as well as involving herself with event coordination and festivals. In 2003 she was blessed with the birth of her son Ilan. Ready for a new experience that is uplifting & inspiring to herself and others, Lucy approached her with the concept of Spirit of Byron, Destination Management and Holiday guides. Sharing the same work ethics & values as her friend, Margie happily hopped on board, bringing fresh innovative ideas to Spirit of Byron and together making a great team.
